Cartoon dogs were a huge part of many TV shows from our childhood. From Pluto to Scooby-Doo, there is bound to be a dog from a TV show or movie you couldn’t wait to see on the screen. We’ve made the ultimate list of legendary cartoon dogs from a variety of eras, so no matter your age, you can find your favourites below. Take a look!

1. Odie - Garfield

Of course, Garfield was the star of the show but we can’t forget his not-so-clever, yet very lovable friend Odie. Plenty of fun ensued whenever Garfield underestimated Odie’s capacity for mischief.

2. Blue – Blue’s Clues

Did you know Blue from Blue’s Clues was actually a girl? She was the best at solving puzzles and helping out with clues.

3. Spike – Rugrats

Spike from Rugrats was a fictional breed called a Siberian Tiger Hound. He was always around to protect the little Rugrats; some might say even more than Mr. and Mrs. Pickles.

4. Santa’s Little Helper – The Simpsons

This poor little Greyhound was abandoned by his original owners and adopted by the Simpson family. He appears in the first ever episode, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”, which aired in 1989.

5. Pluto – Disney’s Mickey Mouse

Named by Walt Disney himself, Pluto is a yellow-orange dog that is a sidekick to Mickey Mouse. He’s actually just a regular dog – he doesn’t have speech or facial expressions, which is unusual for a Disney character.

6. Scooby-Doo – Scooby-Doo

Everyone knows this one! Scooby Doo is a Great Dane and a big part of the Gang, along with Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred.

7. Scrappy-Doo – Scooby Doo

Not as famous as his uncle Scooby, Scrappy Cornelius Doo was an addition to the Gang, using phrases like “Scrappy Dappy Doo", “Puppy Power” and "Lemme at 'em!" He is also a Great Dane.

8. Brian Griffin – Family Guy

Brian Griffin is a white Labrador, said to be about 8-10 years old. He was picked up as a stray by Peter Griffin. He is also an anthropomorphic dog, in other words, he has human-like traits.

9. Snoopy – Peanuts

Snoopy is a spotted white Beagle and the pet of Charlie Brown. He interestingly became the official mascot for Aerospace safety and even had a lunar module named after him.

10. Slinky Dog – Toy Story

Also known as Slinky or Slink, this wooden Dachshund is a loyal companion and friend to Woody. He is able to speak and has a distinct Southern accent. However, he also has some ‘dog-like’ traits including growling and barking.

11. Lady – Lady and the Tramp

Lady, the protagonist from the 1955 movie Lady and the Tramp, is a purebred American Cocker Spaniel. She was the pet dog of Jim Dear and Darling, who fell in love with a stray mutt called Tramp.

12. Tramp – Lady and the Tramp

Tramp is the other protagonist in the Lady and the Tramp movie. Unlike Lady, who is a purebred American Cocker Spaniel, Tramp is a mixed breed, or a ‘mutt’. He's known for being streetwise – able to avoid dogcatchers and deal with junkyard dogs.

13. Clifford – Clifford the Big Red Dog

Clifford the Big Red Dog, the companion of Emily Elizabeth, was a Giant Vizsla. He was bright red in colour and absolutely massive. He was also super playful and loyal.

14. Courage – Courage the Cowardly Dog

Courage, a pink Beagle known for his oxymoronic name, was a loyal but incredibly timid dog. Courage was meant to defend his owners, Eustace and Muriel, from paranormal activity.

15. Goofy – Mickey Mouse

Known for hanging out and having fun with his best friends, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Goofy was known for his slapstick style of comedy. He is very tall and typically wears a turtle neck, vest and tall hat.

16. 101 Dalmatians

The name says it all. We all know the story of the 101 Dalmatians trying to escape from Cruella De Vil, who wanted to use their fur to make a coat.
